When Granada still could boast the support and interest of the Spanish court, Pedro Machuca, the architect of Charles V, was commissioned a monumental and solemn gate of access, at the top of the Cuesta de Gomerez.

There was probably a Moorish monument at the same place, but nothing remains of it. This massive door is a testimony of the Renaissance architecture which was at the time all the rage.

After crossing this gate, you will leave Granada behind you and enter the domain of the Alhambra, its wood, and a completely different atmosphere. Following the main road, you can find, hidden in the vegetation, another gate, the gate of Bib-Rambla.
